This past week I have been rewatching the first and only season of My So-Called Life. Bless Angela Chase in all her crushed velvet, babydoll dresses, boxers and flannel-wearing glory. All those objects graced my wardrobe at some point during the 90s. While watching the mother/daughter fashion show episode, I couldn't help but think of its counterpart courtesy of Beverly Hills 90210 (one of the best shows ever!). Thus spawned today's Superstylin* Style Showdown: Beverly Hills 90210 vs. My So-Called Life.
(FF to 4:15ish for runway action)
Look: Power Glam
Fashions: Luxe paired with the bigger the better accessories and lots of french twists and updos.
Soundtrack: A remix of Star by Erasure
Verdict: High drama! High 90s fashion!
Bonus: Jackie Taylor doing blow in the bathroom at the 2:47 mark.
Fun fact: Just realized I subconsciously channeled the shoulder details on Brenda's dress for one of the dresses from my senior collection during college.
Look: Saccharin Sweet
Fashions: Homespun aesthetic and lots of shapeless dresses.
Soundtrack: Enigma's Return to Innocence
Verdict: Points for Angela's voiceover about how being strange and complicated can be beautiful.
Bonus: Crimped hair on Angela's sister and a peek of Rayanne and Ricky.
Fun fact: A.J. Langer is now Lady Courtenay.
