This week we bid adieu to the Tents at Bryant Park. Many moons ago, while surrounded by editors at my first big show, a tear came to my eye. A dream of mine had come true and I was in absolute love with fashion. Alas, next season's shows will be held at Lincoln Center. With the move from the park and the popularity of offsite venues, the rise of bloggers and shows streaming in realtime, the Fashion Week bubble is bursting.
Alexander McQueen, the man who gave us the Kate Moss hologram, is always ahead of the curve. His S/S 2010 show on Nick Knight's SHOWstudio set the new fashion show precedent. SHOWstudio will be streaming the F/W 2010 collections by Alexander Wang and Rodarte this Fashion Week. As Mr. Knight stated, "I see the future of fashion weeks around the world as not only a physical schedule of shows, but also as a digital calendar of fashion experiences online, which bridge the industry and consumer experience. When the industry talks about the ‘future of fashion weeks’ this is ultimately where they will arrive”. A slew of other designers are following suit: Ports 1961, Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton to name a few. Burberry plans to stream their next runway show live in 3D at events in New York, Paris, Dubai, Tokyo and Los Angeles. Menswear label Native Son will host a 3D event utilizing the digital stereoscopic projection technology behind the film Avatar known as REAL D.
While on the topic of 3D imagery, feast your eyes on the Baldovino Barani editorial. Please Note: 3D glasses are required for your viewing pleasure. Is this the future of publishing? With the inception of the iPad and the many devices to follow, what does the future hold for digital publishing? The fashion experience will become even more alive.
