When Louis Met Stephen and Takashi

For the spring quarter of my Current Designers class, I added a section focusing on the biggest of big names in fashion such as Chanel and Louis Vuitton. During the lecture, I cited the collaborations masterminded by Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton featuring Stephen Sprouse and Takashi Murakami.

Famed auction house Christie's is offering pieces from both of the limited edition collections for Louis Vuitton during an online auction featuring 84 luxury handbags by iconic designers such as Hermès and Chanel. Birkin and Kelly bags are aplenty in the lot. Belts, jewelry, luggage and wallets round out the assortment gathered by Christie's Vintage Couture team. The Vintage Couture: Handbags and Accessories  online-only auction is accepting bids now through June 24th.

The Good and The Desperate

The Oscars are endless hours of pomp and circumstance for Hollywood royalty and I am a sucker for the red carpet catwalk. Without further ado... Superstylin* presents the good and the desperate looks from the 2012 ceremony.

The Good: White was so right on many of the ladies last night. During the recent Fall/Winter 2012 collections, many fashion stories have raised the question about wearing jackets off the shoulders. Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford is going to solidify the trend. Model/actress/designer Milla Jovovich was vamping for the cameras in Elie Saab but I couldn't fathom why she was there. Anyone? Octavia Spencer dazzled in a Tadashi Shoji number which exquisitely played up her frame. The fit was so key for the Academy Award winner. Rooney Mara's lace confection by Givenchy was the icing on her award show season cake. Michelle Williams kept it classy in a Louis Vuitton gown accented with a darling bow on the hip. Penelope Cruz stuck to a more traditional red carpet silhouette and, while it wasn't unusual and expected, Armani works on her. "If it ain't broke, why fix it?" I say. Jessica Chastain put herself on the "One To Watch" list in an exquisitely embellished Alexander McQueen dress. Lastly, Emma Stone is really coming into her own these days. Fashion's latest darling dazzled all season and last night's voluminous Giambattista Valli gown matched her personality on stage while presenting.

The Desperate: I do my best to keep Superstylin* on a positive tip but the actions of the three women featured above were extremely desperate and that is never a good look on anyone. Why-oh-why did the famous trio feel the need to call even more attention to themselves?

And last but definitely not least, the Oscar for Best Dressed Couple goes to...
Miss Piggy in Zac Posen and Kermit the Frog in Brooks Brothers.
