After the past few weeks of formal red carpet fashion during awards season, I was looking forward to fun frivolous clothing at the Grammys. Many experimented with looks for the sake of spectacle and performance but fashion was not a high point of last night's telecast. What did catch my eye were pieces that shimmered and sparkled in the form of accessories, as well as clothing.
I saw an online poll asking who performed better: Beyonce or Pink. I wanted to answer neither but the ladies were both on par with one another when it came down to the shoes on their feet. Beyonce's bedazzled booties and Pink's crystal-encrusted heels were sky high and I applaud them both for being able to perform in them. B's outfit change involved some heavy duty hoops with rocks as big as my eyes. How did her earlobes handle the weight of them? Mary J. Blige's teardrop earrings were dazzling, as was her performance with Andrea Bocelli singing "Bridge Over Troubled Water". J Hell-No's diamond cuffs were absolutely GORGEOUS but her sequined Versace dress reminded me of a fishing net.
America's sweetheart Taylor Swift looked radiant for her big night wearing a hand-embroidered blue Kaufman Franco dress. The color played up her eyes and the earrings she wore nicely complemented the outfit. Here's where things took a turn for worse... I don't know whose idea it was to have her sing Rhiannon with Stevie Nicks but they should be fired. I have been on Team Taylor for quite sometime since she is such a little lady compared to her contemporaries and I have championed her songwriting skills BUT man-oh-man... her off-key singing had my ears screaming bloody murder and they bled. How could Stevie let this happen?! The look on her face during the performance was one of a woman scorned.
The artist who outshone all was Lady Gaga since she was draped in more rhinestones than all the ladies combined. Her performance per usual was over the top and I must say Elton John playing piano with her was a nice touch. Her multiple Armani Privé outfit changes caused quite the stir but we know that is the norm in Gagaland. At the end of the night, she morphed into a giant human sparkle.
