The Monday morning after awards shows, I have a ritual with one of my most superstylish gal pals from CelebStyle. We have a quick email recap sesh about red carpet looks. Let's begin *ahem*
When I did an up-down of Kyra Sedgwick, I loved the pink and detailed edging on her L'Wren Scott dress but was unnerved by her shoe selection. The shoe itself was a lovely navy/purple number with a fab pink heel but paired with the dress, I wasn't feelin' it. It's all about the small details right...?
Let's take a moment to chat about the young starlets. Why are they all trying to look so...old? Blake Lively- that's the best she could do? Her Versace look was far to severe. Leighton Meester's white Bottega Veneta dress lost me with the poufs on her shoulders. The Gossip Gals are held in high regard in the fashion world and, to me, they missed the mark. Other starlets who fall into the "dressing too old for their age" category: Mila Kunis in Monique Lhuillier and Hayden Panettiere in Gilles Mendel. Enjoy your youth ladies!
January Jones... *sigh* not a fan of her Atelier Versace. I thought it was too angular for her petite frame. (Then again, I don't know if anyone NOT her size could pull that dress off.) Plus she looked like she could hardly breathe. Her hair and makeup? Or shall I say lack thereof...
Moving on to the "safe" category. Nice, simple, pulled together = safe route. We have Debra Messing in a one-shouldered Michael Kors, Ginnifer Goodwin in purple YSL and Narciso-aficionado Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Vera Wang. Less really can be more.
Fashion risk takers of the night: Rose Byrne in Valentino (how is one mobile with the fullness of that hemline) and Toni Colette's coral Monique Lhuillier (bottom half of her dress WOW). Kate Walsh's grey J. Mendel was a highlight for me purely based on the construction of the dress. The back cutout, the gathered bodice, the billowy draping of the skirt- yes please!
Anyone that I missed or overlooked? Have a difference of opinion? Feel free to chime in. xoxo
